Avoidance

Hello Everyone,

How does one avoid a physical confrontation? Preparation, training, and opportunity contribute to avoiding hazards. First one must be aware that a situation becomes possible when all its parts work together. An attack only happens, when all the pieces the attacker needs gather together. If the defender remains aware, then avoiding the attack becomes possible. Let's move from theorhetical to practical

What does avoidance mean in a practical sense? Take actions that prevent or divert the possibliltiy of attack. If you walk down an unlit street to get to your car, then choose a parking area that stays lighted. Walk with confidence and remain aware of your surroundings. Do not fumble for keys or look distracted, even though you may be distracted. Try to keep a poker face, when dealing with the outside world.

Remember to always sweat the details, especially when it comes to training.

  1. The very first way to avoid a situation is not to be there! Being aware of your surroundings at all times to know what is going on around you. Making decisions that will keep you safe. Avoiding conflict is the very grown up thing to do. Avoid it at all costs, but if it comes down to it an someone is going to attack you revert to your training. Take them out and get out of dodge!!

  2. Avoid the physical confrontation if possible. Most of the time this works, but one must prepare for the next step.

  3. I believe that in order to avoid shady characters you must know where these attackers hang out. I would avoid all bars, especially late at night because there is always bound to be trouble and even if you aren't in it, you're still likely to be dragged into it. Dark alleyways... even walking out on the streets late at night could be dangerous cause nobody is around and that is the perfect time for an attacker to get away with their horrible intentions. It all comes down to commonsense. Just avoid shady areas and certain crowds.

  4. One visiting an area for the first time be sure to observe your surroundings. Have an escape plan ready. Be sure to follow through with your plans even if it may look stupid. It is better to look stupid than to be sorry. Remember what you are taught.

  5. A self Defense teacher of mine once said "the best way to avoid a confrontation is 'doon't be there!'" I completely agree with this statement. I understand it is easy to get complacent and end up in a shady situation however I believe preferation is the best way to avoid a confrontation.

  6. Avoiding a situation and being aware of your surroundings goes hand in hand. Intuituion also plays into this. Always remember that if a situation doesn't feel right, it probably isn't and to get out of their as fast as you can to avoid any further problems that may arise. ALWAYS TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!!!

  7. Hello Chloe,
Avoidance of shady areas and certain crowds remains helpful, but also being with friends can help as well. One person can present a target, but two or more present less of a target.
Enjoy life and live, but remember that being aware leads to safety and good adventures. Confidence comes from experience.

  8. Hello Puangphen,
Preparation leads to persistence. Practice and train, even though others may think differently. Do what is right for you.

  9. Hello Alonzo,
There remains nothing wrong with being ready for an event.

  10. Hello Janelle,
Intuition and training go hand in hand. Training sharpens intuitive responses and allows one to shape the event. If you play chess or a Japanese game called "Go," then see a few moves ahead and do not give the opponent an opportunity.

  11. Avoidance is only helpful when someone is alert and prepared. Avoidance can occur before during and after an attack or confrontation. Personally the less conflict the happier the life. But with living in an aggressive city this can be difficult. Women especially should procede carefully in their activities and use common sense to avoid danger.

  12. Hello Sam,

Avoidance expresses itself as the ability to not engage in conflict. Once aware of the conflict, take your sails out of their wind.

Avoidance skills assist in avoiding danger. Conflict resolution skills are only one part of avoidance.
